Previously deported man shoots woman, good Samaritan who came to her rescue
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}DENVER – Brian Geer was shot on Oct. 1 after he went running to help a woman who was frantically banging on his front door.
Geer’s home surveillance camera captured the whole thing as the woman was trying to escape the suspect, Jesus Garcia-Chavez, at Geer’s front door.
"I could hear screaming as I was approaching the door and I probably heard a gunshot,” Geer said. “After I made contact with him he said 'oh you want a shot too?,' and he pulled the trigger.”
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}"She's screaming for help still, so I ran towards him I don't I'm not sure what I was thinking at this point except that she was in trouble,” Geer said.
With the woman shot, the paramedic and former paratrooper figured if he hit Chavez-Garcia hard enough he’d drop the gun.
"I didn't knock the gun out of his hand and that's when I was shot,” Geer said.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Geer’s wife called 911 as both laid bleeding by their front door.
"I've never experienced anything so scary in my life,” Cheri Geer, Brian’s wife said.
Police captured Chavez-Garcia at a Denver motel on Friday night.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Garcia-Chavez has a long criminal record and was wanted on two outstanding warrants.
He was illegally in the U.S. after previously being deported.
Both Geer and the female victim are expected to recover.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Now, facing months of rehabilitation, Geer says he’d do it all again.
"This is all worth it – it's painful. I'm going to be out of work for a while, [but] she's safe,” Geer said.
"He did a wonderful thing: He helped somebody that needed help – that's what's important. Luckily everything's okay,” Cheri Geer added.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}"She's going to heal. I'm going to heal. He's put away, so right now I'm pretty happy with the way things turned out,” Geer said.
Friend’s have set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for Geer’s medical bills.
