Police: Ohio tourist fatally run over in Jamaica

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Police in Jamaica say that a woman from Ohio has died after being hit by a minibus near the popular tourist town of Montego Bay.

Authorities identified her as 48-year-old Latanya Shivers. They did not specify her hometown.

Police said in a statement late Friday that the minibus driver apparently lost control of his car and hit Shivers and another man who were part of a group standing on a sidewalk. They said Shivers died while receiving treatment at the hospital, but the man is expected to survive.

They said the minibus driver has been detained for questioning. He has not been charged.
