Police Caution Protestors Ahead of Nigeria Strike

ABUJA, Nigeria-- The head of Nigeria's federal police force says security agencies will allow protesters to assemble ahead of a planned national strike over spiraling gasoline prices.

Inspector Gen. Hafiz Ringim told journalists Friday in Nigeria's capital Abuja that the police would arrest anyone who breaches the peace.

Ringim's comments come as about 100 protesters marched on Nigeria's capital Friday over the government removing fuel subsidies, despite a heavy presence of security forces. Hackers also took over a federal ministry website Friday to voice their displeasure.

The cost of fuel more than doubled in Africa's most populous nation after the government announced Sunday that they would end the cherished subsidy.
