Mozambican police say they have arrested four Rwandans, including a senior military official, for the murder in South Africa of a former spymaster in Rwanda and critic of the government there.

Joao Machava, a Mozambican police spokesman, told The Associated Press in Maputo on Wednesday that the Rwandans were arrested a week ago in connection with the murder of Col. Patrick Karegeya, the exiled former head of Rwandan intelligence whose body was found in a plush Johannesburg hotel on Jan. 1.

Machava says the suspects will be sent to South Africa.

He says one of the suspects is Lt. Col. Francis Gakwerere, a senior official in the Rwandan armed forces.
