AL-DHAFRA AIR BASE, United Arab Emirates – U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter says he'll talk with his commanders in the coming days to identify more ways the U.S. can intensify the fight against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.
That could mean more airstrikes, cyberattacks and American troops on the ground.
Carter says the U.S. wants to do more in the fight and is "only limited by our own ingenuity" and ideas. He's expressing confidence that the White House will approve recommendations for additional military moves and says nothing he's asked President Barack Obama for yet in the conflicts has been turned down.
Carter spoke to reporters Saturday at an air base near Abu Dhabi in the United Araba Emirates. The base is a key launching point for operations against IS militants in Iraq and Syria.
