PESHAWAR, Pakistan -- Pakistani intelligence officials say American missiles have killed three people in an attack on a vehicle in a militant-infested region close to the Afghan border.

The strike Friday took place close to Miranshah in North Waziristan, the site of most of the more than 130 missile attacks since the beginning of last year.

The intelligence officials did not say who was killed. They asked for anonymity because they were not authorized to give out their names to the media.

American officials rarely discuss the CIA-run program, but the missile attacks are considered a major weapon against Al Qaeda and the Taliban in the region.

Pakistan formally protests the attacks for domestic political reasons, but is known to have contributed intelligence to some of them.
