Pakistan-Afghanistan border remains close for 4th day

Officials say the Chaman border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan remains closed for the fourth consecutive day after Afghan protesters burned a Pakistani flag.

A Pakistani official says Monday the decision to open the border would be taken at higher level after certain diplomatic issues are resolved. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

Samim Khpolwak, spokesman for the provincial governor of Kandahar province, said Pakistani officials decided to close the border on Friday after angry protests on the Afghan side. The two countries have ongoing tense relations over a number of issues, including Afghan accusations that Pakistan shelters and assists the Taliban.
