CANBERRA, Australia – America's Pacific commander Adm. Robert Willard says the United States wants China to exert more influence on North Korea to end its military aggression and nuclear program.
The commander of the U.S. Pacific Command told reporters in Australia on Tuesday that recent "provocations" such as the fatal North Korean shelling of a South Korean island last month have "got to be dealt with."
Willard's comments come ahead of a meeting Wednesday between the South Korean chairman of the Joint Chiefs and his American counterpart. South Korean military officials say the two will assess security on the Korean peninsula and discuss ways to deter future North Korean provocation.
