WARSAW, Poland – Poland's outgoing prime minister has criticized President Andrzej Duda for setting next Thursday as the day for the first sitting of the newly elected parliament because the timing will prevent Poland from being represented at a European Union meeting on migration.
Ewa Kopacz, whose Civic Platform party was defeated in an election Oct. 25, must resign with her government at the parliament's first sitting. Her resignation in Warsaw will prevent her from meeting with other European heads of government in Malta for an informal summit on migrants.
The winning party, the conservative and Euroskeptic Law and Justice party, is working on forming a new government, but it will not be in place by then.
Kopacz said Duda should attend the summit in her place so Poland is represented.
