SANAA, Yemen -- A Foreign Ministry official says Yemen's ambassador to the United Nations has resigned to protest a violent government crackdown on protesters.
The official told The Associated Press that Abdullah Alsaidi had sent his letter of resignation to President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Tens of thousands of people joined a funeral procession Sunday for protesters killed by government gunmen. And the Yemeni president's own tribe called on him to step down, robbing the embattled U.S.-backed leader of vital support.
