BRUSSELS (AP) — The EU says U.S. President Barack Obama and European Union leaders will meet on Nov. 20 in Lisbon to discuss how to boost global economic recovery.

EU spokeswoman Amelia Torres says the meeting will be held after a summit of NATO leaders on the same day. The NATO conference is expected to focus on the war in Afghanistan and efforts to reform the 61-year old alliance.

Obama has urged EU leaders to refrain from pushing through sweeping austerity plans in a bid not to threaten the economic recovery.

He raised European hackles at the beginning of this year with the announcement that he would forgo the annual summit meeting planned for May. The move was seen in Brussels as a diplomatic slap to the 27-nation bloc.
