No Saggy Pants Here: Florida Town Bans Pants Two Inches Below The Waistline
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}OCALA — It is now illegal to wear your pants two inches below your waistline in the city of Ocala. The city council passed the saggy pants ordinance earlier this week, and it is up to the police department to enforce it.
The police chief told city council his goal is not to arrest people, they just need to comply with the new ordinance.
According to the ordinance, it is up to the police discretion on how they want to enforce it. But worst case scenario: a person sagging their pants may be fine up to $500 and spend up to six months in jail. The offense would be a second-degree misdemeanor.

"I think that's a bit steep of a fine or punishment for that,” said an Ocala mother Melanie Waters.

A middle school teacher, David Steffey said he understands why the City Council passed it.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}"It is an issue in some of my classes with some of my students,” David Steffey told us.
Steffey says he's all about freedom of speech but says some people wear their pants a little too low and it can become obscene.
“I always tell my students at school I don't need to see what is underneath your pants. I always remind them they don't want to see what's underneath my pants. Having said that, I think it's fair. I've had a couple of students pants zip tied to keep them up,” said Steffey.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The sagging pants ordinance is enforceable on city-owned or leased property, including sidewalks, streets, parks, sports, recreation and public transportation facilities and parking lots.
