An airline manager says a Boeing-747 jetliner carrying 400 pilgrims hit a sharp object as it was landing in Nigeria's northern Sokoto city and blew out two tires.

Aminu Salahu of Kabo Air said no one was injured in the accident that affected two of the Jumbo Jet's 18 tires.

He said the chartered plane was flying from Kano city to Saudi Arabia and had stopped to pick up more pilgrims in Sokoto.

The accident comes three days after a plane chartered from Associated Airline crashed and burst into flames minutes after taking off from the country's main airport in southern Lagos. At least 13 people died in that crash of a Brazilian-made Embraer-120 turboprop.

Nigerian airlines and airports have a notoriously poor record.
