The British royal family released new images of Princess Charlotte Sunday ahead of her first birthday on Monday.

The four pictures show the little girl at her home in Norfolk, in eastern England. They were taken by her mother Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, sometime in April.

A statement from Kensington Palace said Prince William and Kate "are very happy to be able to share these important family moments and hope that everyone enjoys these lovely photos as much as they do."

The birth of Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, named after her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II and her late grandmother Princess Diana, made headlines around the world, as had the birth of her brother Prince George in July 2013.

Her privacy has been carefully guarded during the past year, and she has only been seen in public on one other occasion, her christening. On that day George stole the limelight when he stood on tiptoes to peer into her baby carriage.
