A Navy strike fighter crashed in the Persian Gulf Tuesday, shortly after launching from the USS Theordore Roosevelt aircraft carrier.

In a statement Tuesday, the Navy said the two aviators aboard were ejected from the F/A-18 Super Hornet, but do not have serious injuries.

They were quickly recovered by a search and rescue team and are being evaluated aboard the Roosevelt.

The Navy said the crash was not a result of hostile activity and it is investigating the cause.

The F/A-18 is part of Strike Fighter Squadron 211, based at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia, and assigned to Carrier Air Wing One.

The Roosevelt is conducting strike operations against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
