A schoolboy was found hiding under his bed after a three-hour police hunt was launched when his mum woke up to find him missing.

Cops launched a river search and rushed to get a helicopter in the air looking for Josh Dinning, 9, who had not been seen since Monday evening.

Locals were even asked to look out for Josh as the search for the schoolboy grew, with dozens of neighbours joining the hunt.

He was reported missing at 9:15 a.m. after his mum failed to come across his hiding place.

The youngster was found three hours later, hiding in a drawer underneath his bed.

When asked what made him want to hide away, Josh said he didn’t want to go to school.

Speaking on the search, a spokesperson for Northumbria Police said the force was in the process of reviewing the incident to determine why the “hidden compartment” was not checked.
