MEXICO CITY – A Mexican federal official says a son of alleged Sinaloa drug cartel boss Ismael Zambada has been captured.
The official says Ismael Zambada Imperial was arrested in the northern state of Sinaloa and transported to Mexico City. He spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of an official announcement expected later Thursday.
The official said Zambada Imperial assumed a more prominent role in the cartel this year, after his father became the top leader following the capture of capo Joaquin Guzman in February.
He is the third of Zambada's sons to be detained in recent years.
