MEXICO CITY – Mexico's leftist Democratic Revolution Party says its representative in a southern state was badly beaten by youths wearing campaign T-shirts for a rival party.
Officials say Guillermo Sanchez Nava told a group of youths to stop tearing down campaign posters in Guerrero state Wednesday. The youths allegedly beat him, causing severe head injuries.
Sanchez Nava serves as the leftist party's representative in Guerrero, whose governorship is to be decided in Jan. 30 elections.
Democratic Revolution leaders blame the beating on supporters of the Institutional Revolutionary Party.
That party called on Thursday for an investigation, but also accused Democratic Revolution of exploiting the attack for electoral purposes.
