Man charged after beating of heavily pregnant woman causes her to lose baby

LONDON – A man has been charged with child destruction after a pregnant woman was so badly beaten she lost her baby.

Kevin Wilson is in custody after being charged in a London court Thursday. He is also charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

Malorie Bantala, the 21-year-old woman who was assaulted on Monday night, remains in critical condition. She was 32 weeks pregnant and her unborn child did not survive the attack.

She has told officials that Wilson, 20, was the father of the child. She was attacked by two men wearing motorcycle helmets who repeatedly kicked her in the stomach before fleeing.

London Ambulance Service officials also apologized for failing to respond quickly to the emergency call. Bantala was eventually taken to the hospital by police.
