Israeli police say two Palestinian women stabbed an Israeli man with scissors in a central Jerusalem marketplace before they were shot by an officer.

Police spokeswoman Luba Samri says one of the women was killed, while the other was wounded. Israel's rescue service says the man suffered moderate wounds.

The incident occurred in Mahane Yehuda, a popular outdoor market in downtown Jerusalem.

Palestinian attackers have killed 18 Israelis over the past two months, mostly in stabbings, while 88 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire. Of them, 56 Israel said were attackers and the rest were killed in clashes between protesters and Israeli forces.
