JERUSALEM – Israel says it has successfully launched a new spy satellite that can gather intelligence on Iran and other regional adversaries.
The Defense Ministry made a brief announcement of the launch Tuesday and said more details will follow.
An Israeli security official says the Ofek 11 is the country's "most sophisticated spy satellite to date." Another official says it can transmit high resolution images in color and relay images from nearly anywhere around the world.
The two officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief media.
