Israel has barred an Israeli academic from a diplomatic event in Germany during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's current visit to Berlin.

An official traveling with Netanyahu confirmed that professor and human rights expert Rivka Feldhay was excluded from a meeting of Israeli and German scientists.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.

Feldhay told The Associated Press in an email that she had traveled to Berlin at the invitation of the Israeli embassy in Germany.

She says that after she arrived, the embassy notified her that the Israeli government would not let her participate in the meeting Thursday "since I am critical of the government."

Critics say Feldhay's exclusion is another example of the Netanyahu government's intolerance for dissent.
