TEHRAN, Iran – TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — The British ambassador was summoned to Iran's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday over allegations of British ties to terrorist activities in the country, the Foreign office said.
The semiofficial Mehr news agency said Wednesday that the summons came following the arrest of militants seeking to carry out terrorist attacks.
The agency added that the Iranian government was demanding a serious investigation by the British government into any links with the militant group, which it identified as the exile movement, the Mujahedeen-e Khalq Organization.
Britain's Foreign Office confirmed that their ambassador to Tehran "was indeed summoned today."
"The Iranians were alleging some involvement by people in the U.K. in an alleged MeK plot in Iran," it said in a statement. "We made clear that we condemn all forms of terrorism anywhere. We firmly reject any allegation of our involvement in any such activity."
