NEW DELHI – Police say they have foiled a possible terror strike in India's capital with the arrest of a suspected member of Kashmir's biggest rebel group.
Delhi police official S. N. Srivastava said Friday that the arrest and questioning of the suspected Hizb-ul Mujahedeen agent led them to a hotel in Delhi's old quarter, where an automatic rifle, grenades and plastic explosives were discovered.
Srivastava said the man, who was arrested Wednesday, told police the weapons were intended for an attack in New Delhi around the time of a popular Indian festival next week.
Police were searching parts of the city based on information gathered from questioning the man.
The Hizb-ul Mujahedeen is one of over a dozen militant groups that have been fighting Indian forces since 1989 seeking independence for Kashmir.
