Indian Guru Ends Hunger Strike After Nine Days

Indian yoga guru Swami Ramdev ended Sunday a hunger strike against government corruption after nine days, having a glass of juice.

The popular TV guru, who is also known as Baba Ramdev, has been under observation at a hospital in the Himalayan town of Dehradun since Friday, when his condition deteriorated.

Ramdev came under heavy pressure to end his fast from "a galaxy of religious and political leaders," Indian network NDTV reported.

"Baba Ramdev has ended his fast and has taken a glass of juice. We thank everyone for the support," spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravishankar was quoted as saying.

Ramdev's high-profile campaign piled pressure on India's scandal-tainted government. His hunger strike was a protest against so-called black money, cash from bribes or other illegal transactions held in overseas accounts, AFP reported.
