India's defense ministry says it is sending two aircraft to join the international search for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane.

The ministry said in a statement Thursday that four Indian navy ships have also resumed a search after a gap of four days for the missing Boeing 777 in the Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea and west of the Andaman Islands.

India's navy and air force searched more than 250,000 square kilometers (100,500 square miles) last week in the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal. India put the search on hold on Sunday awaiting new instructions from Malaysia.

India's navy said Thursday it has received new coordinates from Malaysia for resuming search operations in an area south of the Indian Ocean.
