In the wake of Miss Honduras murder, local stylist to beauty queens killed

A hair stylist popular among beauty queens in Honduras was found dead last week, little more than a week after Miss Honduras 2014 and her sister were murdered.

Luis Alfredo García, known by his friends and clients as Destiny, appeared to have been tortured, police said. Local newspapers reported that the 41-year-old man’s body was found in the bathroom of his apartment. He had knife wounds to his neck and his hands and feet were bound.

The man lived on the island of Roatán, one of the country's Bay Islands, which are a popular tourist destination.

One of the employees at a hair salon he owned went looking for him after he failed to report to work and did not answer his phone.

Wilmer Torres Saavedra, head of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation told El Heraldo paper that robbery was ruled out as a motive because nothing was stolen from the apartment. Also, García was still wearing his watch and a gold chain when he was found.

Miss Honduras, 19-year-old Maria José Alvarado, and her sister Sofia, 23, were shot to death earlier this month in what police say was a jealous rage by the sister's boyfriend.

Four people have been arrested in the killings, including Plutarco Ruiz, a man who family members said was courting Sofia, and a purported accomplice who allegedly helped bury the bodies on a remote river bank.

Police say Ruiz confessed to killing the sisters during a heated argument with Sofia after she danced with another man. He allegedly shot her first, and then shot Maria José twice in the back as she tried to flee.

The murders of Alvarado and García are not believed to be related.
