VILLAHERMOSA, Mexico -- Authorities in the southern Mexican state of Tabasco say gunmen opened fired on a group of people at an auto body shop, killing eight.

Police in the Gulf coast city of Cardenas say two other people were wounded in the attack late Tuesday.

Police said in a statement no one has been arrested and a motive for the killings has not bee determined.

Tabasco had been spared most of the drug-related violence affecting neighboring Veracruz state.

Cardenas city authorities on Monday found the body of woman along with a message warning the residents to stay indoors after midnight.

Meanwhile, police say gunmen ambushed and killed three officers Tuesday in a suburb of northern city of Monterrey.
