Greek police arrest suspected Lebanese militant

Greek police say they have arrested a Palestinian man suspected of belonging to an al-Qaida-inspired militant group in Lebanon.

A police spokesman said Sunday that Galeb Taleb was arrested "for national security reasons."

Taleb had been identified in a Saturday report by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera as a member of Fatah al-Islam. The newspaper further alleged that Taleb is a ringleader of a group of extremists whose members are located in Northern Europe, Germany, France and Bulgaria.

Greek police say their counterterrorism services had been following Taleb and they decided to arrest him when the article appeared because they suspected he was going to flee the country.
