BERLIN – Police in Germany are offering a bounty of 20,000 euros ($21,700) to anyone who helps identify those responsible for setting fire to a building that was meant to house refugees in the eastern town of Troeglitz.
Authorities in Saxony-Anhalt state announced the bounty Tuesday amid growing calls to crack down on far-right groups.
The fire that broke out in the early hours of Saturday destroyed attic rooms in a house that some 40 refugees were due to move into next month.
The honorary mayor of Troeglitz stepped down last month following weeks of far-right protests in the town.
Markus Nierth complained that the local authorities weren't stopping neo-Nazis from protesting in front of his family home after he had spoken in favor of allowing refugees to move to the town.
