The Gaza health ministry says a 10-year-old boy was killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a Hamas military base.

It said in a statement that shrapnel from an airstrike on a Hamas base hit a nearby house killing the boy, Yassin Abu Khoussa and wounding two of his siblings, one seriously, early Saturday.

It said Israel carried out five air raids on Hamas facilities.

The strikes came after militants in Gaza fired several rockets at Israel Friday night, causing no injuries. No militant group took responsibility for the barrage.

Israel holds Hamas, the Islamic militant group that rules Gaza, responsible for all attacks from its territory.

Israel is struggling to contain near-daily Palestinian attacks. A Palestinian shooting and stabbing Friday wounded 2 soldiers and a civilian.
