Afghan officials, dignitaries and family members have attended the funeral ceremony for a provincial governor assassinated in a high-profile bombing earlier this week.

The ceremony for Logar Gov. Arsallah Jamal was held at a mosque in Kabul on Thursday. He was buried in a cemetery in the Afghan capital.

Jamal was killed Tuesday by a bomb that went off as he was delivering a speech at the main mosque in the Logar capital of Puli Alam to mark the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.

Jamal was the highest ranking official killed in recent months.

No group has claimed responsibility for the killing, but it bore the hallmarks of the Taliban. They have been fighting the Afghan government and foreign troops since the U.S. invasion in late 2001.
