French President Francois Hollande says a landmark climate deal may not be reached in Paris in December if wealthy countries don't commit adequate funds to help poor nations fight global warming.

In a visit to Manila to launch an international appeal to back efforts to conclude a climate change accord, Hollande said Thursday there will be no deal "if developing countries are convinced that nothing is being done to facilitate their energy transition."

Organizers hope the Paris pact will be the first time that most countries in the world agree to do something about climate change. Previously only rich countries have pledged to limit their emissions of gases that cause global warming, primarily carbon dioxide, from the burning of coal, oil and gas.
