French President Hollande condemns ex-pat restaurant attack in Mali that kills 5

French President Francois Hollande has condemned an attack on a restaurant in the Malian capital of Bamako that has killed five people and injured an unknown number of others.

Hollande said in a statement on Saturday that security had immediately been tightened around French facilities while the embassy set up a crisis cell to help expatriates. He said one of the victims was likely French.

Hollande said he "condemns with the greatest force the cowardly attack" against La Terrasse restaurant, located in a district of expatriates. Hollande said that he will meet with Mali's President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita to show his support, much as the Malian leader had come to Paris to show his support in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attacks in January.
