JERUSALEM – A lawyer for Israel's former President Moshe Katzav says he will appeal his rape conviction and seven-year prison sentence.
Katsav is due to enter prison on May 8. Attorney Avigdor Feldman told Army Radio on Monday that Katsav's lawyers would ask for a delay.
Analysts have predicted that the disgraced former president would be hard-pressed to win an appeal.
Katsav was convicted in December of raping a former employee and sexually harassing two other women who used to work for him.
An Israeli court sentenced him to jail last month, making him the country's highest-ranking official ever ordered to prison.
Katsav has denied all wrongdoing. At the sentencing, he accused judges of committing an injustice.
