Feminist activist detained in China ahead of International Women's Day

BEIJING – The lawyer of a well-known feminist activist says his client was detained in Beijing two days before the observance of International Women's Day.

Lawyer Yan Xin said he did not know why police detained activist Li Tingting and an unspecified number of others Friday. He said he had not been able to talk to his client.

The detention comes at a sensitive time as the country's National People's Congress holds its annual session in the capital.
