LONDON โ Six candidates are competing to lead Britain's right-wing U.K. Independence Party, which was a key force in the country's vote to leave the European Union.
But the party says Stephen Woolfe, an ally of former leader Nigel Farage and the favorite to win the contest, has been excluded from the race because he missed the application deadline by 17 minutes.
The nominees announced Wednesday include three UKIP members of the European Parliament: Bill Etheridge, Diane James and Jonathan Arnott. The other contenders are Elizabeth Jones, Lisa Duffy and Phillip Broughton.
UKIP has descended into feuding since the high-profile Farage announced his resignation following the June referendum.
