Farmers in the western French region of Brittany have blocked a national highway with a pile of smoldering tires to protest falling prices.

The farmers want more help from the government, saying they cannot pay their bills because prices have stagnated or fallen while they face higher expenses than their competitors elsewhere in the European Union.

About 30 tractors and 100 farmers took part in Friday's protest, among several the farmers have carried out in protest at what they say is little help from the French government.
