Juliet Martinez, Mendez’s mother, told NY Daily News her daughter went for a walk in Prospect Park and never returned to her Lefferts Garden Apartment in Brooklyn.

Mendez's father as been working with the Mexican Consulate and the New York Police Department to locate his daughter.

"As soon as we found out that this lady Geraldine was missing, we established contact with the family and have provided them advice, and we contacted the police," Carlos Izzo, Mexican Consulate told ABC7 New York.

Mendez's mother turned to Facbook to solicit help and support.

"We ask, with broken hearts, if anyone knows anything about her that they help us find her," Martinez's mother wrote in a Facebook post Thursday.

Friends and family of Mendez have taken to the streets in Brooklyn to post signs of Mendez and are hoping to find leads.

"Geraldine is what I call a happy hippie," friend Kris Kemp told NBC New York. "She's creative like most of the people here, so she was just kind of hanging out with different people here."

Friday, the Mexican Consulate in New York enlisted the help of the public via social media, tweeting out a photo of Mendez and where to call with tips or information in the case.
