Failed suicide attack on Afghan governor kills 1
KABUL, Afghanistan – Authorities say a failed suicide bombing targeting the governor of a province in northern Afghanistan has killed a 14-year-old girl.
The bomber detonated a suicide vest Tuesday morning outside the office of Parwan provincial Gov. Abdul Basir Salangi. Salangi was not near the explosion and was not injured in the attack.
Dr. Abdul Khalil Farhangi of the provincial hospital says a 14-year-old girl walking by at the time of the attack was killed, while one of Salangi's bodyguards was wounded.
Meanwhile, NATO says two international service members died late Monday during insurgent attacks in eastern Afghanistan. Forty-two coalition soldiers have died so far this month.
