An elderly man lay dead, slumped over the steering wheel of his car, for two days in the parking lot of an English hospital.

Police said they were alerted by paramedics at around 11:00am local time Saturday after the body of a man was found at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, southwestern England, the Plymouth Herald reported Wednesday.

The 79-year-old, who was not identified, is thought to have gone to the hospital to keep a routine appointment last Thursday.

Initial investigations suggest his body may have remained undisturbed until it was found two days later. An autopsy will be carried out in the next few days.

A police spokesman told the newspaper, "The deceased man is believed to be in his late seventies and was from the Plymouth area. Detectives do not believe this is a suspicious death at this time. An investigation is being carried out, and police are liaising with the coroner."

Investigators seized the car and were studying video footage from the parking lot in an attempt to discover the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
