CAIRO – Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi has ordered the dismissal of a daughter of the former chief auditor, who alleged that massive corruption had cost the country billions of dollars.
The Associated Press obtained a copy of the presidential order — which is dated May 29 but went into effect on Monday. It gave no reason for the sacking of Shorouk Hesham Genena as an aide in the administrative prosecution.
Last week her father, Hesham Genena, the former head of the Central Auditing Organization, stood trial on charges of spreading false news, following his dismissal by a similar presidential decree.
Genena alleged last year that corruption had cost the country 600 billion pounds ($67.6 billion).
