Economist Jiri Rusnok appointed Czech PM

Czech President Milos Zeman on Tuesday appointed his ally Jiri Rusnok as the country's prime minister to succeed the centre-right government that fell amid a bribery and spying scandal.

"Dear prime minister, thank you for having accepted my offer to become the premier at this very difficult time," the leftist Zeman said after Rusnok, an economist, was sworn in as head of a technocratic government.
