The murder suspect, a 26-year-old policeman, went to the police station on Tuesday claiming to have "important information" about the missing girl, Milly Boele.

"He quickly came to the point that he said that he killed her," prosecutor for the southern Dutch city of Dordrecht, Paul van der Beek, told a news conference.

The murder suspect, whom the girl knew, took her to his home, killed her and buried the body in his garden.

The adolescent disappeared from her home on March 10 in the late afternoon. Dutch police carried out a wide search and issued an appeal for witnesses.

Van der Beek said that it was not clear why the girl went with the suspect and that the exact circumstances of her death had still not been established.
