The Vatican has announced the details of the pope's upcoming trip to Mexico on the feast day honoring the Latin American nation's patron saint.

The Vatican confirmed Saturday the pope will begin the visit in Mexico City on Feb. 12, where he will say Mass at the Basilica of Guadalupe the next day.

The pope will also visit the southern border state of Chiapas, one of Mexico's poorest areas and home to a large indigenous population, as well as Morelia, the capital of Michoacan state and currently a hotspot of Mexico's drug conflict. Francis' last stop will be Ciudad Juarez on the country's northern border across from El Paso, Texas.

The pope said Mass in St. Peter's on Saturday evening to mark the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
