Japanese police are attempting to determine the identity and cause of death of a person after a body part was found floating in a pond in a quiet residential area of Tokyo.

Tokyo metropolitan police said a passer-by reported finding the body part Thursday on the surface of the pond in the city's Himonya park.

Police said investigators have found a few other parts and are still searching for the rest of the body to determine its identity and cause of death.

Media reports said the parts that were found included the head, a right leg and hands. They said the decomposed parts had bite marks believed to be left by fish or turtles living in the pond.
