The Czech Republic says it will help train Kurdish forces to fight Islamic State militants.

Interior Minister Milan Chovanec met with his counterpart in the Kurdish Regional Government, Karim Sinjari.

After their meeting Tuesday, Sinjari said he asked for technologically-advanced security systems, surveillance equipment and training courses for Kurdish security forces, adding international cooperation is necessary to destroy the militants.

Chovanec says Czech police can send officers to Iraq to train police, and that specific details about the training and other possible help from the Czechs will be announced next week.

The Czech government has already agreed to supply the Kurdish military with 500 metric tons of ammunition.
