The Czech education minister says she is resigning over a scandal that involves the head of the country's football federation.

Katerina Valachova announced the move less than a week after Miroslav Pelta was detained and police raided the federation's headquarters and a club partly owned by him.

Valachova isn't suspected in the case.

Prosecutors said they are investigating possible fraud involving Pelta, the federation and two education ministry senior officials in connection with state subsidies for sports from the ministry.

Earlier Tuesday, Valachova canceled approved subsidy programs for sport federations and asked for their re-assessment. She said the football federation might not be eligible due to the ongoing investigation.

The federation protested, saying it has done nothing illegal.
