The Czech government is sending a diplomatic note to Norway to protest a decision by child welfare authorities to strip a Czech national of the parental rights to her two sons.

Norway's Child Protection Service took the children from the family, who live in Norway, in 2011 on suspicion of abuse and neglect, and placed them in foster homes.

Tuesday's announcement by Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka came after the service decided one of Eva Michalakova's sons can be adopted while she is banned from seeing the other one.

Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek said Tuesday the Czechs were earlier assured by Norwegian authorities that adoption wasn't an option.

The government said it is ready to support Michalakova's possible complaint at the European Court of Human Rights.
