Congo radio reports that an air cargo plane overshot the runway in Mbuji-Mayi in central Congo, hitting homes and killing at least seven people.

Residents told Top Congo FM radio that there was bad weather and the plane landed in the middle of the runway before overrunning it.

Alphonse Ngoyi Kasanji, the provincial governor, said the plane made several attempts before the final landing. He said an investigation has been opened into the incident.

The government said that the four crew members were not hurt. It said at least seven people on the ground were killed.

The radio reported the Airbus A310 plane belonged to Services Air, a private sector cargo airline.
